Unhappy 1994 volvo 940 coolant leaking from the front of water pump

Hi!
My 1994 volvo 940, california car , gasoline engine, is leaking from the front of the water pump.

Tomorrow, i will loose the power steering PUMP, and remove the puley in front of the engine so it will expose the water pump and i really see where it is leaking from.

It seems like the water pump gasked!

Does any body knows how to remove and replace the water pump?
There is a red pipe that goes from the water pump to the back of the engine.
How do i deal with it?

Thank you.
Hector.

hector,
do a search on the forum, there's a couple good write ups done, that go into pretty good detail. the red pipe bolts to the water pump, and will have to be unbolted before taking the pump off the block.

good luck with the repair, you shouldn't have any problems doing it.

No need to loosen the PS... I just undo the 4 bolts in front of the water pump, and pull the pulley straight out. Use 6 point socket, those things are SOFT. Then take out the timing belt cover, there is the pump! All 10mm bolts, a couple of nuts... The red pipe to the back is 10mm bolt with a nut on the back. Installing it make sure you cinch up the pump upwards to line the holes as the new gasket that seals it to the head needs to be compressed a little... Some use a jack to push it up...

People, do understand that a leaking water pump is the BEGINNING of the end of the pump. The pump can leak for months before you replace it. I had a pump leaking on my 740 for about 6 months (20,000 miles) before I replaced it. If the leak is significant, do replace it ASAP, but if it's only leaking a few drops at a time, don't get to much in a hurry.

Volvo techs actually have leak limits.

Hi!
This is hector.
The pump was leaking from the upper round gasked (ruber).
I replaced the water pump and all the gaskeds.
Thank you all for the help.

The top gasket is a common leak point. Hopefully you cleaned the sealing surface on the engine. Loosen all bolts slightly and lever the pump upward to compress that top seal.
No need to drain the system again.
