Default 1994 Volvo 940 Trans help!!

Just bought a 94 Volvo 940 non turbo automatic from a family friend. Everything in the car works and it drives, but it's shifting funny. I know it's a common problem but this is my first Volvo so I'm coming to yall. when driving it always revs way to high 3500-4000 before it will shift, and even then it won't shift while accelerating. I have to completely let off the gas. I've checked everything I know to check. The kick down cable doesn't have any slack in it, trans fluid levels are good. The only thing I don't actually know is working or not is the trans solenoid relay. I pulled it and looked clean so idk. And when I turn the OD on and off it lights up on the dash like it's supposed to. I don't know what else to do at this point.

Any help would be appreciated.

sounds like sticking kickdown cable.

Pull it all the way out by hand and see if it goes back in well. Also lube it up and hope for the best.

if you're tooling down the road at a steady speed above about 40, and push the OD button to light the OD disabled light do you feel the shift and hear the RPMs rise? and push the button again to turn out the OD light, and feel the shift and hear the RPM's drop again ?

the only relay is the OD relay, and that is whats lighting the light so if thats toggling the relay is good.
