Default 1995 940 sedan - can't figure out this brake light issue!

Recently purchased a 1995 940 sedan with 189K miles. Today, I replaced the rear brake pads and rotors. I noticed the bulb failure lamp was on, and found a tail light was out. I went to the parts store and replaced the bulb. Immediately afterwards, the brake lights stopped working! I checked the fuse, which is fine. The bulb failure relay is not corroded, it actually looks newer than all the other relays. ??? The only other thing I can think of is the brake on/off switch. Would this be causing it? Or something else? I'm at a loss.

i have just replaced the switch in my 740
generic switch for $25 or so
easy to troubleshoot
if you remove the liner and metal plate under the steering wheel ( assuming the 940 interior is similar to the 740 )
it is very easy to see
jump it out
and if the brake lights come on
that was your problem
