i'm new so please help me i have a 89 240 it will start up and rev up in park when u put it in gear on hot days i have no accleration and will use a lot of gas can anyone help.

 

Is the car new to you or...have you had it a while and this is a recent development? Have you pulled the codes from the OBD? 89 240's don't really have nose bleed inducing acceleration w/ the 114 raging, snorting Swedish horse power motors...but they should get up and go on down the road. Gas mileage typically is 14-16 around town and 20-24 on the open road. Just off the top of my head I'd guess the O2 sensor is shot, allowing the engine to run pig rich. Not only does that wreck fuel mileage it will ruin your catalytic converter and clog it up. A clogged converter will make acceleration a thing of the past. Do you know how to check the stored codes in the car's system?
