240 non start - SRS code showing
Hi all,
My other half has had a Volvo 240 for a number of years now with very little issues. (Which is why we like the 240's)
I upgraded the stereo system the yesterday with a more modern stereo and speakers as the old one was dead (Standard Volvo one!). When I completed the work and checked all electrical items to make sure I'd not left anything unplugged all was well
I went to start the car this morning as it was late last night when I finishedand the SRS light is now showing upand the car will not start up at all. The Gearstick is locked in the PARK position as well.
Now I've did a search on this forum before writting this and I tried the following, but still the 240 will not start.
1. Took off the gear stick cover and released the plastic lever so I could move the gear stick into Netural slot, but still no start.
2. Took out the fuse from no.7 as this is the gearstick lock, still no start.
3. I understand that the neutral safety switch could be at fault here or not in the right position, so can someone tell me how I can figure out if this is at fault or how I can understand if its in the wrong position and what is the right position?
thanks Simon.

ok so I figured it out...
There is a selector that connects to the gear lever on the right hand side. This was not properly on the rod part, so that the computer knew it was in PARK, instead it was in the 1st gear position. I unscrewed the two screws, pulled the unit up and over so the arm part was on the rod part of the gear selector and then screwed back together. Put the gear in PARK and started it up

One Volvo 240 working again, now with a lovely sound system...
