240 Steering Wheel Vibration at 60mph
hi all:
what is causing my 1992 DL 240 VOLVO to slightly vibrate (steering wheel shakes - hardly noticeable) at 60 mph?? It drives me crazy. Below 60 and at 50 steering wheel is fine...very steady, straight line travel, smooth ride
Car has been F/E aligned, new front tires, and wheels balanced. Could it be brakes (brake pads contacting rotor in some strange way)?? No pull to L or R, struts are original. Car has 128k miles and going strong.
Thx...appreciate your help/suggestions/recommendations
Love my DL240...

Could be a bent rim, out of balance tire or a bad tire. There are many ways to diagnose. You can check the runout on the rims by jacking up the car and spinning the wheel. Just use a fixed item placed close to the rim to see if the space varies when then tire spins.
You could also swap tires front to rear and see if the problem is better or worse.

even if the wheels are true and balanced you may have a vibration if there is accumulated rust. I always take a wire brush on a drill and blast the inside of the rim and the rotor. Shops like Discount Tire are supposed to do this but rarely do. It'll cause a slight vibration at about 60 like you say.
