Default 240 transmission or PNP switch?

Taking off at a traffic light, my 240 does not always take off in 1st gear, many times it takes off in 2nd (I believe), otherwise transmission shifts very smooth, overdrive works fine. Someone suggested it might be the PNP switch to cause it to take off in wintermode, I didn't think the 1992 240 had such a winter mode?
Do I need a new transmission, or will a flush do the job?
Could it be tied to something else like ABS, rear axle, diff or similar?

Thanks for your advise

The 240 doesn't have a PNP that controls gearing. Sounds like the transmission is on its way out. Sounds like it is slipping sometimes when taking off.

Not quite slipping, it does not downshift to first gear, it will downshift to second gear only and stay there until 28 miles than it shifts to 3rd and fine after that, overdrive works perfect, yet same thing, no taking off in first.....

I would say it is time to look for a new one.

Thanks, even though I didn't want to hear that. I might change the oil and filter while I am thinking about if I want to spend that kind of money on an older vehicle

Doing that cannot hurt it. If anything it might help you never know till you try.
