Hello,

My 1988 Volvo 240DL failed smog because the heated air intake hose was cracked. I need to replace it. Looks like it's 2"x52" corrugated metal hose. I see the part number is 9438274 and that it's a FIFTY DOLLAR! part? No way. I've read it doesn't do anything really besides let you pass smog so I'd like to fix it cheap as possible.

Where can I get 2" wide metal corrugated hose cut-to-length?

Does anyone have an easy fix for this?

Go to advance auto and buy two "pre-heat hoses". Connect them with exhaust tape covered by electrical tape (exhaust tape will slowly seal over time). Total cost = $20 and it works. I did it on my 244.

 

what he said, generic 2" hose, spliced as needed. I actually would go so far as to say, you should use a bit of bailing wire to jam the vent in the bottom of the airbox to that hose permanently closed. the thermostats tend to stick open when they get old, and then your MAF gets baked in hot weather and dies young.
