240's running bad after storage
Hi guys, i've had my 82 244GL and 84 240GL in storage for the past 2 years. After putting fresh fuel/batteries in them they will splutter to life(just) however they struggle to idle and stall if the accelerator is touched. They were both running great when they were parked and had fresh spark plugs and leads(minor service).
I've heard of the in tank pumps dying during storage? When i turn the key on i can hear fuel pumps humming away like they used to. Fingers crossed for an easy fix, something is just clogged up somewhere?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers, Stu

Maybe hook up a fuel pressure gauge at the pressure regulator to see what pressure you are getting going into the fuel rail/injectors? This could tell you if the issue is at the pump or a clogged filter vs something going on post regulator.
During long term storage I also worry about rodents eating away at wiring insulation and causing issues, your issue definitely sounds more like a fueling issue.

oh, for 240's, there's a simple jumper test you can do at the fuse panel to run either fuel pump by itself.
see In the Tank - 240 Volvo Tank Pump and Sender
note that on the 240 fuse panel, each fuse, the power input is on the left fuse clip as you face it, and the load/output is on the right clip. on the right side of the fuse panel and partially hidden by the trim, each fuse has 3 spade lug connectors. the last one, farthest to the right, is the power input and connects to the left side of the fuse. the middle row and the left/closest ones are outputs and are both wired to the right side of the fuse...
ANY old 240, do yourself a favor, go on ebay or amazon and buy enough Flosser real ceramic copper/brass fuses for the whole panel, and replace every single fuse, cleaning the fuse contacts. I use a soft pink pencil eraser on the contacts, then remove any eraser crumbs.
these fuses are often sold as mercedes w123, w124, etc fuses. as all the 80s/90s benzes used them too. The actual Flosser OEM package is a box of 100 fuses, which is way too many for a car owner, lots of ebay resellers break these up and sell 10s or 20s.
