245 Fuel Pump Relay Connector
Hi, all. I just discovered something that I thought others would benefit from. I had the dreaded "no start" condition on my 245. After working my way in the parking lot of different posibilities, I soon found myself in the passenger footwell replacing the fuel pump relay. I learned from others on this site to carry a spare. Well, the wiring going into the connector didn't feel right; and by the light of my cell phone, didn't look right either. I left the connector and relay "just hanging" there as I stated the car and drove home. The next morning with good light I looked again at the connector and noticed the insulation from the big red wire was severely worn through with just a film of material left covering the braided wire.
Apparently , over the years, this wire has been rubbing against the firewall where it is clipped, and was nearly worn through! I supect it could easily happen to other cars; the relay is supposed to clip on a hook thing there. SoI taped it up really well and bent the clip away from the firewall to keep it from rubbing anymore.
As I understand it, this red wire is the main power source to the fuel injection system and fuel pumps.
