Default 740 Lift Gate problem

Just bought a 740 wagon, 1992. Lift gate opens from inside, but not with the outside latch. Key turns counterlockwise OK, to lock, but won't turn clockwise to unlock. I have removed the inside hatch trim to expose the mechanism, and it seems clean and tight. Is there a linkage I am missing?> The main link goes up and down with the outside handle, but I cannot release the latch from outside with the key. Chilton is no help - does not show the lliftgate diagram.

Also, does anyone have a diagram of the relays behind the ashtray? My rear wiper and auto locks don't work. Fuses are OK. Chilton no help here either.

Thanks for the advice. I have downloaded the Volvo wiring diagrams showing the fuse block and relays. Have also ordered a spare rely for each and every position. My 245 (1988) started to show some flaky electrical problems due to bad relays (high beams and overdrive) plus those #%&@# Bosch bullet fuses that corroded inside the panel. 740 seems to have corrected the electrical problems.
