Hello all,

I have just been to the garage and they have told me I need a new lower steering column for my 1990 740 GLE and they can't source one themselves - anyone out there have one or know where I can find one?

I imagine any 740/760/940/960 should be a donor... What's wrong with yours, never heard of that part needing replacement? Not a high demand part for sure.
Try voluparts. If he doesn't have it he can probably point in the right direction.
Or any self service pick n pull yard if you have one near you

 

Thanks for replying! I'm not mechanic honestly - they said at the garage that the joints are quite worn and this is causing a sticky steering wheel, it has a tight patch when you turn. They said they couldn't source the part themselves so I have the job of finding one.. I'll try voluparts

Any idea if they're hard to change or is it best to leave it to a mechanic?

Well, it's not hard but it depends on your skill level... That part has two joints, it's well visible from the top, It's much less work than the steering rack. If you get stuck you'd have to tow the car to a shop... Hard to say.
