Default steering column adjustment lever

I just searched the forums and found that in order to replace the cheep molded plastic steering wheel adjustment lever on my '05 XC90 I must practically remove the steering column. SERIOUSLY???!!! Could someone who has done this job please affirm what I found. I will spare you all the obvious rant.

Default 98 S70 Broken Steering Wheel Lever

Did you ever find a way to fix this without removing steering wheel column?

Default Steering column lever broke

This literally happened to me today in my 2001 V70. I'm pissed cause i just finished replacing my cam seals and crankshaft seal. Which took me longer than i thought due to finances and my PTSD from the military. But with the steering column free and not locked I'm gonna assume it's not safe for me to do a test drive around the block.

Yes to replace the handle it looks like you have to remove 4 screw to lower the column to get enough clearance.
