740 no start
Okay so fuel pump is in and it will start and run but it only runs for a minute or so then cuts out. Fuel pressure is good. Any ideas? It has a code for low/high battery voltage and idle control valve or something like that. It will just turn off like someone turned the key off.
How is your battery? Check the voltage. A low battery can cause weird problems on some cars. A quick check with the voltmeter can verify. Check it with the engine off, engine on at idle and at higher revolutions. Should be above 12v with engine off. Should be somewhere around 12-14 with the engine running. Shouldn't go much over 14v when the engine is revved.
that was 12.5 when the engine had been off for awhile? thats a mostly charged battery. and 13.4 when running? that means the alternator is working .... if it went BELOW 13.4 while running, then the alternator is having issues.
huh. with the integrated fuel/relay panel on the 740/940 being in such a protected location behind the ashtray and on top of the transmission hump, I have trouble seeing how that wiring could get messed up. I did have one relay socket on one of my 7/9's loosen up such that it made a flaky connection, this was because someone had stuffed a extra wire into it for a cheesy stereo install. I had to pull the relay panel, extract that pin socket from under it, and carefully pinch it back together so it would get a firm grip on the relay blade, and rewire the car stereo properly.
