Default 740 Volvo Turbo problems

I did read the other posts about this issue but still have a few questions.......my 740 from time to time will not start. It will crank over fine but no start. Sometimes if I hold the gas pedal down for about 5-10 seconds before cranking it solves the problem. This time it will not start at all.......cranks but now I am going to run the battery dead if I am not careful. Funny thing is, not sure if it was the case before but do not recall that it was--the turbo dial on the dash shows the needle sitting there right at the yellow mark. Why would that be? Is there some way to alleviate the pressure or lack thereof by lifting the hood and doing something? Neither of us is very mechanical but we just KNOW that if we have it towed and take to a mechanic they will rip us off again (they did recently on some brakes).

Help![&:]
