740 wagon strange sunroof query!!!
Hi everyone, hope someone can help.
I recently bought a '86 740 GL wagon. One thing I wanted to do was to replace the steel sunroof with one from a scrapped car, as mine is rusty. (B4 doing the headliner!!)
However, My steel sunroof, which is factory fitted, has a black steel frame around the roof opening, like what you would find on an aftermarket sunroof, all other 740's I've looked at, don't have one.
Also, the sunroof motor switch above the mirror, doesn't have the plastic motor cover, as shown in the owners book, nor is it missing, as there are no holes or tell tale signs of it ever having one (stains or creases in the headliner for example)
Before I go out and hunt down a roof panel, spray it etc, can anyone tell me if my car is perculiar, or will the standard vadis part number be the same for the panel, so that any 740 or 940 sunroof panel will fit???????
Any help would be welcomed, especially as my local volvo dealers don't seem to have a clue.
BTW as I am in the UK, my car is RHD.
Thanks,
Jay

Hmmmm... it is an aftermarket roof, or it's not... Sounds like it is, by your description. Why do you say "factory fitted"? The switch would be on the dash if it was a Volvo roof. Best thing to do is measure yours and see if a standard OEM Volvo roof would fit it, but I doubt it. Godd luck
Hi, thanks for your reply.
I can honestly say it is a genuine volvo roof, as everything inside the car is as it should be, and the same as any other volvo, i.e. the pop up vent etc, and it all matches the pictures in the owners book. The only thing that is different to other volvo's I have seen is this black frame round the roof aperture. BTW - According to my owners book the switch SHOULD be on the roof above the mirror, there is a picture of it in the manual. I wonderif cars in the US are different?? I live in the UK, so it's a RHD.
