740 won't start. NEED HELP!!!
He hall effect switch should have new rivets in it. You just hit them with a center punch to flare them a bit. The JB weld is to fix the plug if it breaks and comes loose. Check out these pages on testing that part of the system before you dive in and replace it.
Hi
The car is working again!!!!!!
I finally got a hall sensor and got a local engineering place to fit it to the distributor, installed it and the car fired up!!
I want to thank you soooooooo much for all your help and advice. Without it the car would be at the scrap yard but now it will hopefully have many more years left!!
Thanks again
Norm

Update - I drove the car for a couple of hundred miles now and was fine... until this morning! It won't start!!! It gets a spark and I could smell petrol when I took the spark plug out too.
What on earth could be the problem with it now???
Thanks
Norm

I managed to finally get it started at lunchtime. Must be an intermittant problem, but it's a problem nontheless.
Maybe it had something to do with the fact that it was quite damp outside this morning which it hasn't been the previous days?
