Hi, New to group great to know there are soo manny volvo fans. I have a question I was hoping someone might help me with.I have been working on a 1978 242 DL. after removing the tie rods I noiticed quite a lot of play on the passenger side of steeringrack shaft (I think this might be the play that led me to suspect tie rods or the knuckel joint in the first place) it looks like a bushing or something is missing, the outer housing is flared down about 2" and the shaft(rack ?) moves freely all around I feel like something should hold the shaft straight. My manual dosent show anny exploaded view of the steering rack so I'm wondering if this is just a flaw,dosent matter,or a after market fix is avable anny thoughts?? Thanks

 

Never ran into that. Maybe something internally in the rack is bad.

 

Hey Thanks, youwereright the rack was defneltey bad. Replaced with nice beefey aftermarket part, feels like a whole new car..now to lower it. Anny good springs supplyers out there ?? thanks again John
