i just recived a 84 240 DL, the guy i got it from told me the only thing wrong with it is it has a idel problem.It idel up and down while in park.Well i paid the 500 for it and have had it for 2 days now.On my way to work this morning it lost alot of power and forced me from 60 to 40mph on the freeway.If i let off the gas i would lose that much more power.As i pulled into my parking lot at work it died.It will start back up and run only with me giveing it gas.If i let of it dies.What should i do?Get my 500 back or is a a dumb easy fix?i have noticed alot of those on this forum.lol

 

More than likely it just needs a major tune-up, plugs, wires, cap&rotor, throttle body and IAC cleaning, air filter, fuel filter, to set things right. You could probably throw in a new intake manifold gasket also, and check for vacuum leaks at all the hoses and holes in the intake snorkel tube. All of that is not very expensive, and since they are so easy to work on, not much trouble. If all of those items have been done and it still is bad, then it is probably a bad intank fuel pump or clogged screen, weak main pump, or bad fuel pressure regulator. You could determine which one by testing fuel pressure at the rail, and/or current draw on each pump.
