84 volvo 245 - fuel filter a pain to get off
I'm trying to get the fuel filter off to no avail. I believe the one end where the gas line connects requires a 18 mm, and the other end where the outter fuel pump connects requires a 19 mm.
I can't get a good enough grip to get either side disconnected. I just noticed at the end of the filter the end looks like you can put a wrench on the end to hold it in place while you take off the actual bolt.
Is this correct? Or does someone know of some steps to take to get it off? I tried putting a 19 mm on the end to hold it in place but this is too small, anyone know the correct size, as 19 mm is the largest wrench I have.
thanks

That is correct. You have to treat the fuel filter connections like hard line fittings, because they are. So, spanner on the filter and spanner on the flare nut on the hard line. You really should use a flare nut spanner to reduce the chances of rounding off the flare nut on the line, that ruins your day when it happens.

When you get it off, replace it with one that is ALL steel. I tried one that was aluminum and wasn't able to torque it enough for the fittings to seal and was rounding the flats on the filter. I think it was a WIX.
It's kind of hard to get an impact gun on the filter fittings, so you know how treat that.
