Im new to volvo and european cars altogether. My car is an auto with the overdrive switch being on the side of the shifter on top. I got in my car one morning to go to work and now the shifter seems to be stuck in the on position (overdrive light is on and car is in overdrive) is there an easy fix for this?

 

also, i did disconnect the battery from it and left it overnight and it is engaged and still wont turn off

 

Have you tried checking the switch itself? I had one stick in the on position, and I sprayed it with an electrical cleaner, after that it worked fine. One other problem may be the overdrive relay is faulty, causing it to stay on also.

 

Sounds like the OD relay is bad.
But when the light stays on the car doesn't go into overdrive.
