87 244DL Not starting, has spark.
I'm trying to fix my ex-wife's 87 244DL, and i'm clueless. I replaced the distributor cap and rotor last night, there wasn't spark to the plugs, but it came off hte coil. Even after they were replaced it didn't start, so i went to the trunk and turned the ignition on, to see if i could hear the fuel pump kicking on. I didn't hear anything, so i thought it might be that, and checked all the wires i could find in the trunk, then to the fuse box to make sure all the connections were solid.
I then tried to start it again, pretty much at random, and it started right up. Turned it off, and it started up again. Turned it off, waited 5 minutes, and it started again. Problem solved, i though, though i had no idea what i had done that might have done it, thinking that the disty was bad, and from her trying to start it so much without spark to the plugs, flooded it. So once it had been cranked enough, with spark, it dried it out, and eventually started.
I went in and washed my hands, went to the store to get something to eat in my car, about 1.5hr later, came back and tried it again. It fired immediately, but then would just crank, not actually starting up. Turned it off for a few seconds, and tried again, and it started right up. Can anyone shed some light on this? Any info would be greatly appriciated. Thanks.
