Default '87 740 GLE RPM increase during stops.

Hello all,
Lately, when I am driving my 740 and slowly (or quickly) come to a stop, the engine races to about 1500 rpm briefly, before slowly (but surely) settling down to the normal 750 rpm idle. It seems related to when I push the brake, or when I engage the clutch and take the car out of gear and put it into neutral (M46).

Any idea what's going on?

A while back I was getting some crazy RPM activity, which ended up being a problem with the dreaded wiring harness. I'm hoping that's not the problem this time. Luckily, my buddy was able to locate where the short was before... and patch it. Don't want to push my luck twice.

Thanks.

It may be the wire harness again. Patching it up doesn't work for long.
