Default 87 740 Gle Timing Belt

i checked camshaft-wasn't moving, looked in top half of timing belt cover gear wasn't moving. i took top half of cover off & belt looks really cracked in certain places & the belt tension seems pretty loose but belt doesn't seem to be broken, maybe down in the bottom half of TBelt cover? can a worn loose belt (but not broken) have the same effect? I'm also concerned now after reading a couple of posts with engine damage what does it take to damage the engine with a broken timing belt?

Thanks
Ian

Your engine will not bend valves.
I will bet the teeth are missing off the bottom section of the belt where it goes around the crankshaft.
