It's my understanding that volvo changed the starters from 1.4kw to .75kw during the 88 production year. I have the starter out now how do I tell which stater to order so I can get my core charge back? I was thinking of ordering it online because they seem to be so much cheaper there. Do the numbers on the casing indicate which stater it is? The numbers are 131291 and then 1.2 below that it's a bosch and on the other side it says1005 821 151. I found more numbers 846 above 0 001 108 030 on the starter motor casing. I phoned a Volvo dealership but they were no help.

 

I managed to find out yhat for my car I needed the 1.4 kw starter (bosch sr437x) Apparently according to another Volvo dealer they repaced the .75kw with the 1.4kw and that is the only repacement available. Starting August 88 all 240's came with the Sr437x.
