88 240 starting trouble
Hello all, long time lurker first time poster. I would like to apologize up front if the following can be found using search, I tried and could not find the answer.
I have a 1988 240 DL that has a couple problems. It would not start, cranked over good, good spark, fresh tune up, fuel pumps run only when fuses 4 & 6 jumped. Bought new fuel pump relay, clicked once then nothing.
So after more research here I grounded the green/blue wire at the relay. relay now clicks.
However the only way it will start is if I jump the fuel pump fuses in the fuse box and have the green/blue relay wire grounded.
So here is my question, what parts do I need to make it work properly. I have been on this site constantly for the last two days trying to find a definite answer any advice is welcome.

Don't know the color codes, but the fuel pump relay has a socket that is always hot. When you look at the socket with the relay inserted , the side of the socket that the relay has the clip on, you jumoer the left lower and middle right sockets and the pumps should run full time without the relay inserted and w/o fuses being jumpered. If the fuses have continuity, then the problem is between the fuse panel and the relay socket. This does not sound like you need new parts assuming the relay is good. It sounds more as if you have a bad ground somewhere. Is the fuel pump relay new...or new to you? Because I've installed second hand relays that were no good....
