'89 240 DL- Trouble starting sometimes
Hello fellow brick owners! About 80% of the time my 244 DL. Becomes difficult to start.
I end up pumping the gas as it struggles to start for 3 or 4 seconds. She
always fires up though. The other 20% of the time she fires right up
without stepping on the gas (as I assume she should?).
Is this pretty standard for an old 244 or is it a warning sign of
problems to come?
Many Thanks,
Doug

could be your fuel pump is going. could be your fuel filter is plugged. could be the anti-reverse valve in that stack is not working. could be the cold start injector is plugged (if your car has one, some years do, some don't).
could be you need a proper "tuneup" (new sparkplugs, cap rotor wires).
could be something entirely different.
do you switch the key 'on', then wait a second before hitting the starter?
and yes, it should start with no gas pedal.
