Default 89 240 original radio quit???

My 1989 240 wagan has no sound coming out of the dirvers side speaker. I have checked the speaker and it is fine. The problem seems to be the original radio. Is there anyone who repairs this unit or is an after market the better choice. Is there a way to put speakers in the back?

Did you get any relief on this, I'm having the same trouble, I have a new problem in that the FM band doesn't work any more - Very annoying.

These radios are available used on Ebay, in junk yards, Craiglist, etc. Repairing them is possible but it may be costly.

If that was my car, I'd have replaced it years ago with a $100-ish alpine/pioneer/kenwood and spend ~ $250 on 4 good speakers while I was at it.

Radios from that era make great door stops IMO. Swapping out the radio is a given for me; working or not. Today's units are wicked good for $100.

Concur completely. While you're at it, pop for a little more and get satellite radio. Lots of good entertainment. For me, it's the Radio Classics station and good jazz.

my #1 criteria for picking a new car stereo is non-obnoxious lighting. NONE of them I've tried dim properly. a couple of them, I ended up taking the faceplate apart and putting blobs of dark nail polish (swiped from teenager daughter) over the LEDs to dim them down. really hate the bright blue stuff at night. I usually dim my dashboard lights WAY down when I drive at night.
