89 245 ignition question
I am trying to get my daughters 1989 245 with a 2.3 liter engine to start. I am getting no spark from the coil wire to the distributer. My Haynes manual mentions a RPM sensor that could be bad or have a bad connector. I can't find it. Does this car have one?
Yes it does, commonly called a crank sensor located on the rear of the engine. Look down between cylinder head and firewall; it is seen on the top of the bellhousing where there is a cut out. Often it is the pig tail itself rather than the sensor is bad. Beginning in 89, onboard diagnostics is available...have you pulled the codes? On your car, there is a blade fuse very near the battery. It is an open holder originally; battery acid fumes do a real number on it. However, it controls injector pulse, not ignition. Also, there is an ignitor module at the driver's front inner fender that can cause grief...looks like this.

I'd really pull the codes before I went much further...if you get a code for rpm code I'd say you were on the right path.
