Ignition Switch 1990 DL 245
1990 DL245
Below is a URL for pictures from under my steering wheel column of what I think are security bolts. I suspect they are keeping me from removing the cross piece under the steering wheel, that blocks access to the ignition switch. I need to replace it, just the electrical part only.
Bentley mentions a,as in one, security bolt for the 240 series starting in 1990. However, mine appears to have two. They are rounded copper in color, and the heads are flat. They flank the steering wheel column. Bentley also states, they must be drilled and an EZ-Out used to remove the bolts.
He also states the defroster duct must be removed, I hope that is not the case, that appears to be no picnic.
Has anyone been down this path? Or has any insights to ignition switch replacement for a 1990 DL 245
Thanks in advance,
Fred

I know by 91 Volvo changed up the under dash bolster set up when they went to SRS but does your 90 have the carpet/felt bolsters or rigid panels? On 89's, there is no need to go through what you describe. The ignition lock extend further towards the firewall than the cross bar support. Two flat head screws hold the electrical portion in. I'm thinking all you need is a long shank flat head screwdriver and possibly an inspection mirror.
In this picture, the two flat screws are clearly visible at 2 and 8 o'clock.
Remove the two screws...
This is the mating surface for the electrical connector...
And the connector switch itself...
