Alright guys I need some help, just acquired a wonderful running 240. It slowly developed an issue when you go to start it, turn the key and nothing happens. I would put it in neutral and it would start. That was what I would do for a few weeks until that no longer worked. Then I could only start it by jumping the starter with a screw driver. Occasionally it would start in park in neutral and back and forth. I got fed up and bought a new neutral safety switch, a new ignition switch, put those in place and it started fine. It would have an occasional hiccup while turning the key to start it would turn over and stop, I would let off the key and turn again and it would fire right up. It would do this every now and again which I didn't mind. Now I'm back to it only starting while jumping the starter. I need help. I cleaned the connections at the ground strap from the fire wall to the engine block, starter connections LOOK fine I would wiggle connections to try to start it to no avail, new igntion switch, new park neutral switch. I dont know where else to look. I'm mechanically inclined but not electrical. Could it be the starter it self?
just because the connection of the red wire at the starter end may look ok it would be prudent to take it off clean and reconnect it just to see if
anything is different.
Have you used your $3 12v test light to check for power at the small solenoid wire when it won't start? That might be a good step, use a tool (that would be useful for all sorts of other things) and test for power. If no power there then backtrack to the Neutral starter switch - then to the ignition switch. Or start at the ignition switch and work the other direction.

When I get to work tomorrow and put the car on the lift I will attempt to clean all connections and check for power. Thanks for the reply
Figured it out, the little Grey connector on the firewall that has the blue and yellow wire running through it was the problem, the male end of the wire came apart from the female insert.

Congratulations!Good job figuring that out! I was about to suggest replacing the battery cables which I did and it solved my similar problem. Now I will go back and check that connector you mentioned. Could you please post a picture of that connector? Thanks!
