Lightbulb Starter does not start

2008 volvo s40 does not start by turning the key to ignition position.Using straight contact from battery to starter the engine turning, but no ignition at all.
Had anyone of you that kind of issue? Please, let me know how to solve it.
Thank you Robert

Could possibly be a neutral starting switch (pnp) issue but not familiar with the newer models. I had a bad pnp switch (mounted on top of tranny) and had a similar no start/crank issue.

true the PNP switch (park-neutral position) switch can cause a no start as the ECU will think the car is in gear. One thing to try is the "shifter row" - engine off key in position 2 to unlock the sifter, foot on brake, shift from Park to Lo to Park 10-20 times fast. put car back in park and see if it fires up. What this does is scuffs up the contacts in the switch, which may be enough to send a correct signal. To determine if you have a bad starter cable fuse, you need to measure resistance from top side to the starter terminal.
