90 240 DL Wagon Starts,Runs,Stalls
Hello Everyone,
Its been a year since my timing belt problem, and everything has been great
till now.
The car will start and run for 15 min or so then stall and will not start up again at least not rite away, give it 30 minutes and it starts, I've cleaned
the air flow sensor, it seemed to help. Any ideas or suggestions would be
appreciated ,
Thanking You in advance, Kathleen (AKA; Urbanfinch

The first two items I check when stalling is the fuel pump relay and the crank position sensor. To check the fuel pump relay, turn the key to the II position. You should be able to hear the fuel pump run for a second or two and then it should shut off. I make it a habit to listen for it every time I start the car in the morning. The fuel pump is under the car on the left side under the rear seat.
The crank position sensor is located in the engine compartment on the top of the bell housing where the engine and transmission meet. There should be a thick black or gray wire that runs up to a connector on the firewall. Check the wire for flaking insulation or fraying. If you find the insulation coming off, it most likely needs replacing.

My 1983 turned out to have a bad distributor cap and rotor after many weeks of trouble shooting. It was shorting out and took about 15 minutes to fail each time.
This was discovered after BOTH fuel pumps were replaced. The fuel pump already mentioned on the frame and an in tank fuel pump.
Good luck.
