Default 90 240 Neutral Safety Switch replaced but car still will not start in park

I just replaced the neutral safety switch (NSS) in my 1990 240 because the car would not start at all. Now, the car starts (most of the time) with the shift lever in neutral, but will not start when in park. I'm thinking I was shipped a bad switch. Could there be another cause?

Thanks!

The NSS that I installed was new (at least I think it was). As for the installation, that is entirely possible. I think I got the metal pin that comes off the shift lever in the correct location in the switch, but I will check again this weekend.

Is there a way to remove the gear shift **** on an automatic?

the pivot bushings I was talking about are on the main shift arm. when they wear out the arm gets sloppy

Are the bushings inside the compartment where the shifter terminates on the inside of the vehicle?
