Default '90 245 Screwy Speedometer

Following up on my old thread I'm thinking of changing the ECU out on my 245, when I start it sometimes it wont stay idle without some foot work, it doesn't always know when its supposed to idle. I plan on installing a better ECU and some new fuel pump hoses\fuel filter.

What I need help with is the speedometer, my odometer quit from a chipped gear, but my speedometer wont read anything until 30 mins of driving with the heater going full blast.

Is the circuitry damaged? Should I grab another speedometer or just do some electric work to fix it?

The speed sensor and cables are fine from what I can tell, when the speedometer works it works perfectly fine.

Pull the speedometer out and check the circuit board for cracked solder joints. Check out Dave Barton's page regarding speedo repair:
