Default 90 turbo may be done, what to do?

249,000 miles

leaking oil bad at turbo and engine is building up pressure indicating bad rings...

burns oil to the extent i don't think it's good/healthy to drive it...

so, what to do?

I don't want to keep putting money into this car, got about $1600 in it so far over 6 months.

Should I try running some kerosene with the oil to "glaze" the cylinder walls?

Aside from that, what should I try to sell this thing for? It's in otherwise good condition, new fuel pump, good tires, good transmission.

take a compression test to see if rings really are bad-they last forever.

Sounds like my '84 turbo. My mechanic is looking for a cliff right now.

That's a lot of miles. Exactly how much oil? A compression test is a great start. If you sold the car you can reasonably expect to get $250-1000 for it depending on how decent the interior is.

The 745t has 287000ish miles and it is in need for a bottom end rebuild.

It goes through a quart every 1000miles or so.

Jeez Louise! That's like half a Pterodactyl every 3 months! Actually, a quart/1k isn't bad at all for that many miles...especially a T. I say it all the time...these people blabbering about 300k and it's just broke in? A. Never had a Volvo or B. had one from brand new! For most of us, the cars have been through quite a few hands. Unknown maint, unknown driving habits...and quite often, people working on 'em that probablyshould have stayed with their area of strength...burger flipping.

actually, we're original owners on a 87 240 non-turbo that has about 400K miles on it. I say about because the odometer stopped at 250k about 10 years ago. its been flogged hard its whole life. it *finally* needs a camshaft seal, this will be the first time the valve cover has been off. the tranny was rebuilt at about 300k. its had fairly regular service (not anally so, just we try and remember to change the oil twice a year and a timing belt every few years), its gone through a couple water pumps, an alternator, a new radiator... oh, and the a/c hasn't worked since, well, forever.

I have an 89 740 Turbo with 289k on the clock. I have the "K" motor. Depending on what you have, i'd bet the engine is absolutley fine if you've kept up with oil changes. Yes, though, the turbo is due for a rebuild. I sent mine down to a place called Majestic Turbo in Waco, Tx. They received, rebuilt, and turned it around in ONE DAY. I did that at 225k and its been fine ever since (TD05 turbo). So if you are handy enought to take it off, and then put it back on, you might only have a couple hundred in this repair.
