thanks for the info and clarifying what i've got here...

i'll clean and test those sensors. is there a way to test the ECU ??
i don't know how to clear the codes, or if they automatically go away once the problems are resolved..

also, is this ECU the Ignition Control Unit or the Fuel System Control Unit???

Here's how to clear the codes.

Step 1-Insert cable into socket 2

Step 2-Read the fault codes again

Step 3-Press and hold the button for more than five seconds, then release it.

Step 4-When the LED lights, press the button again for more than five seconds and release. If the LED goes off, then the memory is cleared.

To test that memory is cleared, press the button again for 1 second,If code 1-1-1 is returned, then the memory is cleared.

Repeat all the steps with cable in socket 6.

You have a fuel and ignition euc's.

First see if your codes will clear and we will go from there.

ok...erased all teh codes...verified i got code 1-1-1 on both port 6 and 2

started the car and let it run for awhile, drove it around the block....

rechecked for codes:
port 2: 2-3-3
port 6: 1-4-3

as a recap...here is what the car is doing:
when starting the car, have to crank it about 3 times before it will run (like it's not getting enough fuel pressure built up to start)

after getting it running, if you lightly press on the gas pedal, the car seems like it wants to die...if you rapidly feather the gas pedal, you can build up the rpms and the car will run fine....

once going, the car drives and shifts fine...until you have to come to a stop...then when you start off again, you have to feather the pedal rapidly to get it going....

Yep definately 120% Regina...sorry bro These systems really suck...only 1 fuel pump..in tank...really hard to find Map sensor and a just a whirl wind of hard to find parts...I guess I didn't even think you might have Regina cause there were so few 940's with them...I would still try a ECU but only if you can find a good one cheap...cause no matter what with multiple codes it's usually a bad ECU...to have that many bad parts is very unlikely unless 1 part is causing everything else to go out of whack...but before you do that if you have the know how to test your O2 sensor and map sensor with a multimeter...do it!! cause it may be a REALLY hard and expensive ECU to find if bad...Map sensor is expensive too...I am way more familiar with the Bosch system but I will check with my partner who is an expert on Regina and see if he has any other ideas as well...stay tuned...

thanks for the insight...i have found an ECU (the one i pictured earlier) for about $25 w/30 day warrenty..
but the codes i'm getting are from different ECU's...
2-3-3 : Idle Air Control Valve - Fuel System ECU
1-4-3: Knock Sensor - Egine/Ignition ECU

of course, with what the car is doing, especially starting, i can't see how either of these can be causing the problem...
i'm starting to suspect fuel pump...i'm getting good pressure (once it builds up) i just don't think i'm getting enough fuel flow...which could explain both symptons.

on a good note....i just heard that they are in the process of filming "Transformers 3"

I would HIGHLY recommend you paying a Volvo specialist to do this..preferably someone who is volvo certified or knows how to solder well..this pump is soldered in and has to be soldered back in...if it's not done correctly you'll have to do it all over again...not fun...good luck!

this pump isn't soldered...had push on terminals....was only getting about 7 volts on the pump terminals, but 12+ volts on the wiring harness...put new terminals on and hooked the pump back up (also put new strainer on pump)

put everything back together...turn the key.....

car fired right up...not multiple crankings...and had immediate throttle response...

so my thinking...pump not running up all the way with decreased voltage, and strainer was pretty ugly...so before fixing, would have to cranked multiple times or for an extended time to build up the fuel pressure...and once running, did not have the fuel flow to keep up with the engine...

sounds good to me....

now on to fixing the speedometer...
