Default 91 940 SE Turbo

I have a problem with this car stalling, I mean it just shuts down. It will normally start back up in a matter of moments, but will leave me at the side of the road. I have put a new fuel pressure reg and changed the fuel filter, which did nothing. Does anyone know what else to look for, I'm am not a tech, nor am I wealthy(LOL) so any help would be appreciated.

Does it shut down everytime you get up to speed?

Could be a bad power stage?

Wait for others to reply

Could be anything. Check the usual suspects: spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor, spark plug wires. Also could be crank sensor acting up. Go to www.stepbystepvolvo.com for "Real-Life Volvo Quiz." That may help you. It may also be the alternator acting up. Perhaps the brushes are not contacting the slip ring because the springs are weak.

Default What I did

Sounds like the problem I had with my 1991 940 turbo. I replaced the fuel pump in the tank. I pulled it out hooked it to a battery and it ran fine, then it would stop. Wait a few minits and it would run fine again, then stop. So I went to autozone and replaced it. Problem solved!
For Sh~~s and giggles I replaced the pump under the seat as well.
Good Luck

I ran a diagnostic test and I retrieved codes 1-2-1 (MAF sensor signal missing or faulty) and 3-1-2 ( No knock enrichment from DI System). What in the world is the DI system (you techs be gentle (LOL)? I unplug MAF and car does run (limp home mode I think) then when I plug back in the engine RPMs increase substantially then engine will die.

Then the MAF is bad. Try finding one and swap it. or just get a new one http://www.fcpgroton.com/product-exe...category_id/13 or http://www.fcpgroton.com/product-exe...category_id/13.

312 is the knock sensor, but that could be set off from the faulty MAF or a bad mixture of fuel.

Wait for others to responed.....

I replaced the MAF and the car starts and stays running, however now it idles at between 2000 and 2500 RPMs. I removed the IC motor and cleaned it, tested it (and it runs when hooked direct to a 12 volt) and put it back on with no change. What do I look for now? By the way I checked for codes, get 1-1-1. (Go figure.)

I dont believe a high idle would through a code....
You might just need to adjust the screw on the throttle body....

Please wait for others to respone.....

I finally got the thing right. I cleaned the TPS and adjusted the throttle and it idles at about 520 rpms. I think that I will leave it alone for a while.
