um, markers on the BELT? you align the timing belt by ensuring the three pulleys' marks are aligned with the engine block marks, like this...
Yep used the same markers from the plastic timing belt back covers and had to reassemble the front cover on the crankshaft to make sure I was dead on as well. I fitted the timing belt along the same dot markers on the camshaft gear and the one for the distributor. I even used a mirror because I didn't pull the motor to check the gear for the distributor.
She works now, but have no idea what I did that eventually fixed it. I checked the spark plugs and the injectors and both seemed fine. I gapped the spark plugs from 0.035 to 0.030 and checked for spark. I tested the injectors almost losing an o ring in the process; taking them out, running 12v, hearing and seeing them click, and putting them back in. I opened the distributor cap and saw a very small white oxidation on the contacts, but didn't even bother to clean it. I checked that TDC of the engine started with the ignition of the first spark plug and that they were in order of 1-3-4-2 like the manual said. I even double checked if my timing was done right.
Between injector 4 and 3, respectively.
The only thing I have done differently is link this vacuum tube. Any idea on what it does?
I thought I solved my problem with a fuel filter and MAF replacement, but problem still persists. The engine starts dying whenever it bears load at a stop start, but revs perfectly fine at neutral/park and never dies when driving. Sometimes it starts right up and other times I have to pump the gas for it start and maintain it or else it dies. I can brake load the engine and it seems to correct itself, but it's not a permanent fix through out the drive. Any other input would be greatly appreciated.
You may have a fuel pump problem, providing the MAFS you settled on is doing its job... The fuel filter was probably not involved in this--you are having an intermittent issue which usually is electrical as opposed to mechanical.
It's tough to say at this point. If it was one of mine I'd go over all the electricals, sensors, etc. start swapping parts. I do have a '92 940GL as well...
