Default 93 940 need engine help!

Just bought used '93 940 no turbo 171k miles drove about 3 days no problems then while on interstate the engine went to max RPM. I could slow down the vehicle but engine is fighting to go max speed. I tried everything I could put my hands on, like throttle cables, throttle body, butterfly valve, cruse control etc.they all seem to be working freely. If I start the engine, wether cold or hot, it goes to max rev. I can't affect this symptom in any way except to shut it off. I'm desperate, I don't even know where tobegine to look fora solution. No one seems toeveanhave heard of this problem.

Welcome to the forum.

Have you checked for fault codes using the on board diagnostic unit in the engine compartment?

This is a full how-to which does cover your car. Some of the codes may be different as you have a non-turbo. Anything you don't understand post here.

Thanksfor the infoabout the diagnosticunit. I ran the test as you discribed and got a 1-1-1 code, but the condition still existes. I bought the Chilton manual and I see that there is a lot of electrical components assoeiated with the fuel system, but no idea which onemight be a likely cause. Any ideas? Meanwhile I'll be reading the manual. Thanks again
