Default 940 Help

can anyone tell if I need a new pigtail harness for my 940? It’s cutting out and when I move the plug around it starts to change the idol.

'pigtail harness' ? which harness are you talking about ? electrically, a 'pigtail' is usually a connector with the wires pre-attached but just bare wires on the other end, that you can solder or crimp into a circuit, for instance, the connector that comes with an aftermarket car stereo.

and thats the connector for, what, the MAF ? I note the pin on the far right of your pic looks mangled or something?

afaik, the MAF connector is on the main EFI wiring harness which goes all over the engine. I have no idea if those harnesses are available anymore.

what year is this, what engine do you have (b230F Regina, B230F Bosch, B230FT Turbo (always bosch), B234F 16V/DOHC (also always bosch).... oh boy, there's even more choices than that, engine number, whether or not it has a old start valve, etc.

bosch B230F non-turbo up 1994, uses harness 9148317. NLA per this dealer site, https://www.volvopartswebstore.com/p...6/9148317.html ... folks who think they can order it (but will probabl yfind out they can't) claim $1200+.

Never seen a 940 needing a harness. This connector's clip seems "askew", besides that you should be OK. You change harnesses when they are flaky and the insulation is disintegrating causing wires to touch, short, and cause problems. This generally ended with 1987.5 Volvos...

lev, to me, the right-most contact inside the connector looks mangled or has some debris in front of it...

edit: oh wait, just checked the LH2.4 wiring diagram.... oops, pin 6 has no connection. pin 1 is ground, pin 2 is signal return/ground to the ECU, pin 3 is signal output, pin 4 is control input, pin 5 is power switched by the main fuel system relay.

Default Thanks.

Appreciate all the feedback. I put an aftermarket MAF sensor and it’s basically the same thing happening. I’m at a loss so I just hope Volvo doesn’t stick it to me next week. 🤞🏼
