Default 940 seat tracks

Does anyone know how to separate the top and bottom pieces of a seat track? My ball bearings are so dry they rattle. I removed the pin and the rubber bump stops from the back end but trying to slide them apart towards the front or the back they hit some kind of stop. I don't think it's the anchor bolt in the middle, it's welded on. Any ideas? Thanks

squirt grease into them with a syringe, run them back and forth and squirt in some more, til they are thoroughly greased, then remove any excess thats oozing out of the rails. I did this when the seats were completely out of the car, but the rails were still attached to the seats. I used green marine waterproof bearing grease, it seems to be holding up well a couple years later.

(sorry, no pictures of the greasing, these are the newer pair of 960 seats I put in my 92 740).

I tried to do that but just couldn't get it in there, especially with marine grease(doesn't flow as well). There's a couple of stories on turbobricks about bearings falling out when the tracks are separated but I just can't see how they took them apart?

When I did this a while ago, I recall some hammering to get the tracks to separate...

I was able to use a syringe to inject the grease, but you also could use a popsicle stick or something to dab the grease on the tracks where the ***** aren't, then move the slides back and forth to spread it out, repeat until satisfied.

This sounded kind of "brutal" at first, but it worked(light tapping). There's internal rubber spacers that create resistance yet can't be removed until the tracks are separated. Thanks for the tip.

Actually got them apart with my favorite tool - my hammer. Thanks

I usually just squirt WD40 to the tracks loosened up, works fine.

I used wd40 to wash the old grease and crud out of mine when the seats were out of the car. its little more than kerosene, and certainly not a good lubricant. then I let them dry a couple days, THEN I squirted marine grease into the tracks.
