95 940 console armrest broken
Hi all , new to the forum ,I have a 95 Volvo 940 sedan that i bought a year ago.... Awesome Swedish engineering !! I have an issue with the center console Armrest / catch . Not sure if something is missing I don't have #17 ?? ( what is it ? , what is it's purpose ?? a divider ? would my catch #23 attach to this ? ) and my catch that i bought #23 doesn't appear to have anything to attach to ? I've got the lined box #2 any explaination or pics would be appreciated.

arm rest assembly
If you look at the underside of the armrest you should see a small square opening near the front. What looks like piece 22 on your diagram should have a diamond shaped base and is inserted into the opening in the armrest and turned about 45 degrees to lock in place. Piece 23 attaches to the armrest console and receives the tongue of piece 22 to latch the armrest when in place.
My armrest does not have piece 17 either, it has two threaded holes at the back for the hinge and the front hole as described above.

I might add... when I replaced lid 17 with armrest/cupholder 35 on my 92 745T, the 'tongue' on the bottom of the armrest that snaps into the clip 22/23 wasn't even close to reaching. I ended up making an aluminum spacer piece to fit between the clip 22/23 and the body of the armrest, said piece was rectangular, with a rectangular hole in it, and about 3/16" thick, it moved the 22/23 piece about 3/16" of an inch 'back' (towards the rear of the car).

That's because your armrest came from a760 or a 960--they are a different size.

ahhhhh. ok.
so /was/ there a '35' style fat armrest/cupholder specific for the 740/940? frankly, the cupholder is to me nearly useless, I just like the armrest I don't have to slouch over for... except, my wife leans on it so hard, the whole thing shifts to the left, eeek.
with my alum spacer, I'm fine with what I got, although I need to get back in there, and use some lock-tite on the screws that hold the 'snap' in place this time.
