Aftermarket radio back to original - need help!!
Hi everyone!
So I own a 1989 Volvo 240DL and I'm in the process of trying to restore back to the original radio. Right now there is an aftermarket crap radio and I went to the junk yard (not looking for it) but found an orginal radio, don't know if it works but for 35 bucks I said yes. Now the problem is I went home all excited to install and seemed it would be somewhat simple since I have taken the stock radio and change it to an aftermarket in different car. However, when I got in there everything seem so different. Only one wire, the antenna I believe matches, the rest doesn't match up to the old radio. Before I bring it to an audio store to look to see if they could fix it does anyone have any suggestions on how to go back to the orginal radio. I would like to believe that if the radio once was in there that I could go back to the way it was....haha!
Thanks!!!!

I don't know what you mean by "match up". If the radio is from another year the wiring was probably different. Does the radio you got from the jy have the plug with the wires, the harness? If so, you can match up the wires to what's in the car, it is a process. Most radios have a wiring diagram label somewhere. If not, then use a multimeter to figure out what wire is what.

Basically what I mean was at the junkyard when i pulled out the radio there were connectors that attached to back of radio. The radio is from a 87 Volvo mine is an 88. When I got home and pulled out my current aftermarket radio, the connectors going from the radio to the car where different from what it looked like at the junk yard. The harness is definitely different but I did not see the other wires and connectors I needed to attach my old radio back in.

There is no standard connector for radio. I'd go back to junkyard and cut off the radio connectors with wires so you solder or crimp your connectors on. Google the wiring diagram for the radio you have in your car and then the radio in you want to put in, match up the wires and solder or crimp them in place.
