i can get the black rubber for around the windshield. i have the chrome with the cheap clips and want to replace it with the all black style from newer ones and euro models. any info appreciated. looking for other than volvo dealer also. thanks

 

One of the service reps at the Volvo dealer may provide you with a recommendation for a good independent glass man. That's what I did and I had my windshield replaced today. I did the upgrade you're describing,from the 1986 to the 1991-93 style. Just got tired of fighting that chrome surround with the rubber that falls apart.

The glass man showed me how the new black surround attaches to the glass. In discussing my options, the glass man saidhe could do just thesurround or both. Whether you replace the glass or use the existing glass, the windshield still must be removed. Although he could have used the existing glass, I chose to replace the windshield because the old one was sandblasted and had a couple nicks.

He obtained the surround and glass from his supplier and he charged me $97 for them. I figured that was reasonable. The glass is by Pilkington. I don't know who makes the surround. The man came to the house and had the job done in less than an hour. $95 labor. I'm happy.

If you can do it yourself, I'm sure you can buy the black surround from any decent glass man.
