Default Bleed Steering Rack?

Just put a rebuilt Cam Rack in a '78 240 and it spins all the way to the right as soon as the engine starts and I have to fight it hard to bring it back or turn left at all. I notice there are two plugs on the rack near where the external metal lines run along the rack. Is there some sort of bleeding procedure?

Bleeding a steering rack simply involves turning the rack lock to lock with wheels off the ground until the fluid is not aerated any more.
I hope that solves your problem, but it sounds like a problem with teh valve to me.

Regards, Andrew.

Thanks for the info. I'm guessing that I got a faulty rebuilt rack since I had no problem other than leaking with the old rack thus no reason to suspect contamination causing the teh valve to stick, which I think is what you're saying. What does teh stand for? TD

Teh stands for dyslexic typing! I always type the as teh.
Try bleeding the rack before you get too excited, it may just have an air lock.

Regards, Andrew.

For me "teh" stands for tiny netbook keyboard.
