Bleed Steering Rack?
Just put a rebuilt Cam Rack in a '78 240 and it spins all the way to the right as soon as the engine starts and I have to fight it hard to bring it back or turn left at all. I notice there are two plugs on the rack near where the external metal lines run along the rack. Is there some sort of bleeding procedure?
Bleeding a steering rack simply involves turning the rack lock to lock with wheels off the ground until the fluid is not aerated any more.
I hope that solves your problem, but it sounds like a problem with teh valve to me.
Regards, Andrew.

Thanks for the info. I'm guessing that I got a faulty rebuilt rack since I had no problem other than leaking with the old rack thus no reason to suspect contamination causing the teh valve to stick, which I think is what you're saying. What does teh stand for? TD
