Default Brake lights and turn signals not working

Hello! I drive a 1992 volvo 240.

Recently, my turn signals and brake lights haven't been working. When I use my turn signal, the lights on the console don't blink either. However, every once in a while when I turn the car on, they work again. Any ideas what could be causing this?

TIA

Have you cleaned/ replaced the fuse and it's contacts that control the brake lights/ turn signals?
Do you have power across that fuse?

on any 240, *ALL* fuses should be replaced with Flosser copper/brass ceramic fuses ASAP. the fuses sold in car parts stores are tinplate and subject to oxidation and failure. clean the fuse contacts, too, with something non-abrasive. I use a soft clean pink pencil eraser as that takes off corrosion without stripping the plating off the metal.
