Default Brake Rotor Interchangeability and Anti-Seize questions

Hi Everyone, The time has come to replace the brakes/rotors on my salvaged daily driver - a 1993 245. I was offered the rotors and pads off a 1989 244 that was a recent deer strike victim. The owner of the 244 said I could have the rotors and pads free for just taking them off. They were installed about a year ago and the rotors are in reasonable shape.

My question is are the rotors interchangeable 1989 244 to 1993 245, front and rear? All the parts web sites I visit seem to indicate they are interchangeable, but there is always a blurb about check the caliper type so I wasn't sure if there was a corresponding difference in rotors.

I was also wondering about the use of anti-seize on the back of the brake pads. Its seems you either use the shims or put the anti-seize on the back of the pads. Should you use both? Is one a preference over the other?

As far as I can tell, the part number show the same 1989 to 1993. I just looked at the cost of new ones and I would not mess around with used brake parts. You would have to dismantle the one and keep the brake pads in the correct orientation since they wear into the rotor. Otherwise, you will have uneven braking until they get reset.

For informational purposes, I just created a shopping cart of front rotors and pads for a 1993 Volvo 240 and all new parts shipped to me would cost $51.30. I chose Centric which is a good quality part. In my opinion, it is not worth messing with used parts.

Absolutely nothing wrong with used parts! These days, with the shoddy quality from Asia, I'd much rather use an OEM used part than new!

yeah, but used brake parts? those are consumables.

Well, OK, but I still use them. I have eight Volvos right now and I will mix and match things including brake parts, pads, rotors, calipers, hoses, belts, etc. If you have been doing this for a while you know what wear is and what is serviceable, what fails. I am not a shop, I don't have to account but the bottom line is, it works, and it saves both $ and resources. I'd much rather use a used OEM MAFS than some Chinese knock off. Same goes for CPS, all sensors really, whatever. These are very forgiving cars, lots of room for experimentation...
