Default Brakes needs help! 88 740

I am pretty certain my emerg. brake snapped 2 days ago, and yesterday while driving I notice the car wouldn't go very fast. I only drove for about 5 minutes, stopped the car, and noticed a pretty strong smell. My father quickly checked my brakes and the front driver's side one was VERY hot. Is this due to the emerg brake? I would appreciate any suggestions that might help my dad!!! Thanks!

I'm not an expert but the emergency brake is generally a mechanical linkage to a separate set of brakes located in the rear wheels only, I don't see how the cable breaking could impact one of the front calibers.
Does the car pull to one side while driving?
