Default Bulb Failure Light

93 240 Sedan...The Driver side brake light is on constantly when the headlamp switch is in any position other than "OFF". In the "OFF" position, the brake lamps work as they should but when the brakes are depressed, the Bulb Failure Light comes "ON". When the Headlamp switch is in any position other than "OFF", the Drivers side brake light remains "ON" and the other two lamps work fine. Replaced both Rear tail light assemblys and Bulbs, Brake switch Bulb Failure Relay and all fuses related to Lamps. All to no avail. The discrepancy does not change. Question, in swapping everything around I can not remember if the Brake light recepticles are both "White" or is one supposed to be "Black". I currently have two "Whites" or three prong recepticles in place to accomodate the 1157 bulb. any suggestions out there?

hmmm....wierd. Is the rear fog light switch on? What you described sounds like what happens when you flip that rear fog light swich on...it only lights up the driver side tail light. maybe that relay is on the fritz? That is pretty wierd.

RE: White vs black Brake light recepticles, I'll check my Haynes and/or Chiltons guide and see if they thought it prudent to put it in...probably not.

The Fog lamp works Fine. In fact the discrepancy does not change with the Fog lamp OFF or ON, or if the turn signal lamp is OFF or On. Thanks for the reply.

I just received an e-mail indicating that the Left side recepticle for the Brake Light is "Black" and the Right side is "White". What I see as the difference between the two is that the "White" recepticle has offset slots or guides and the "Black" recepticle has equal in depth slots. Which indicates to me that the bulbs are different when every manual says that they must be the same bulb. Is there suppose to be a physical difference between two or is it just the color. Thanks for the feedback.

It is something about the way they are electrical.

I think the connections migth be Backwords or soemthing like that.

I never paid that much attention to them I just make sure the right side is white.

Many thanks, but for the life of me can not see the difference between the recepticles. All the same, my problem is solved. Thanks again
